Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli met with Zhao Leji, Chairman of the Standing Committee of the National People’s Congress, China’s top legislative body.
Zhao ranks third, after Chinese President Xi Jinping and Premier Li Qiang, in the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China.
The two leaders discussed Nepal-China relations, as well as the activities of the CPN-UML and the Communist Party of China (CPC), along with political exchanges between the two parties. Potential future cooperation between the parties was also a key topic, reported RSS, the state-owned news agency, citing the Prime Minister’s private secretariat.
Earlier in the day, Prime Minister Oli held bilateral talks with Chinese Premier Li Qiang at the Great Hall of the People in Beijing. The discussions included delegations from both sides and culminated in the signing of several agreements to enhance cooperation in key areas.
The agreements encompassed: Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs) on enhancing Nepal-China trade, development projects, economic and technical cooperation, volunteer Chinese language teachers, and communication technology between Nepal Television and China Media Group; Exchange of documents related to the construction of the Tokha-Chhahare Tunnel, cash assistance, and the completion of the Basantapur Nine-Story Palace reconstruction; and a protocol concerning the export of processed buffalo meat.
Later, PM Oli met with Chinese President Xi Jinping for a courtesy meeting, where they discussed Nepal-China relations and exchanged views on various matters of mutual interest.
Prime Minister Oli, who arrived in Beijing on Monday, is scheduled to return to Nepal on Thursday, December 5.
