Tourism entrepreneurs in hilly districts of eastern Nepal have intensified preparations to launch the Mundhum Trail Visit Year 2025, targeting to attract over 100,000 tourists next year.
The campaign, spearheaded by the Maiyung-Temke-Salpa-Silingchung Tourism Promotion Centre, aims to promote the newly explored trail that spreads across Bhojpur and its adjacent districts such as Khotang, Solukhumbu and Sankhuwasabha.
The trail, as dubbed by the Centre's President Ramesh Rai, is a ‘virgin destination’ for tourists. It offers a view of a wide range of mountains including Everest and Kanchenjunga, the highest and third highest peaks in the world, respectively.
Development of drinking water, resting places, toilets, and homestay and guest houses-related infrastructure along the trail has been going on to facilitate the visitors, Rai told RSS, the state-owned news agency.
Entrepreneurs plan to organise adventurous and cultural activities such as honey hunting, Ubhauli Sakela, horse riding, ultra marathon and mountain cycling at various places along the route to engage the visitors.
The Government of Nepal has placed the trail among the top 100 destinations to be explored in the country.
MP Ram Kumar Rai, who represents Khotang in the federal parliament, expects the campaign to aid tourism promotion in the area.
While the governments of Koshi Province and Switzerland have each contributed 35 percent, the local government has chipped in 30 percent of the investment for the upgradation of the trail, according to RSS.
The trail begins from Tawabhangyanj bordering Khotang and Bhojpur and goes upward through Temke Danda, situated 3,156 metres above sea level, Salpapokhari (3,750 metres) and concludes at Silingchung at (4,165 metres).
It takes around 10-13 days to complete the trail.
