The 13.5 MW Super Kabeli 'A' Hydropower Project in Yamphudin, Sirijangha Rural Municipality-8, Taplejung, has officially started generating electricity, according to the state-owned news agency RSS.
Developed by Snow Rivers Limited, the project transmits its power to the national grid via Nepal Electricity Authority (NEA)'s 32-kVA Amarpur substation, located 31 kilometers from the powerhouse.
Meghnath Dhungana, the project’s Public Relations Officer, confirmed that electricity is now being supplied to the national grid following a week of successful test production .
Construction of the project, which began in December 2022, required an investment of Rs 2.63 billion.
With the addition of Super Kabeli 'A,' the number of hydropower projects operating in Taplejung district has increased to eight.
The largest hydropower project in the district remains the 73-MW Middle Tamor Hydropower Project, developed by Sanima Hydro Company. Other notable projects include the 25 MW Kabeli 'B-1' and its 10 MW cascade project, both operated by Arun Valley Hydropower Development Company.
Taplejung is poised for significant growth in electricity generation, with more than 18 hydel projects currently under construction in the district.
