February 7: The authorities concerned have started upgrading the runway of Meghauli Airport in west Chitwan. After upgrading, the runway will be 700 meters long and 20 meters wide.
Chief of Meghauli Airport project Chandramani Sapkota shared that the grass-field runway is being upgraded to high-level graveled runway. The upgrading work of the runway is expected to cost of around Rs 12 million.
The Nepalese Army has been using the air strip for training soldiers for para-jumping. Likewise, hotels in Meghauli charter aircraft and helicopters to bring in their guests.
The airport remains closed for regular flights since 2067 BS after the government adopted a policy not to operate hotels inside Chitwan National Park.
The Meghauli Airport is spread over 23 bigahas of land is 24 km south from Bharatpur. -- RSS
