Flights across the country have been disrupted due to adverse weather conditions. Airport authorities stated that operations at several airports, including Tribhuvan International Airport, were affected on Sunday morning due to poor visibility caused by continuous rainfall.
According to TIA spokesperson Rinji Sherpa, both domestic and international flights have been impacted by low visibility and bad weather. On Sunday morning, a Jazeera Airways international flight was diverted to Varanasi, India, due to adverse weather conditions. A Buddha Air mountain flight was also diverted domestically.
Three flights operated by Summit Air and Tara Air from Ramechhap to Lukla were diverted due to poor weather at Lukla. Sherpa said flights from several airports, including Tribhuvan International Airport, started operating normally by late morning after rainfall subsided in some areas. However, flights to remote destinations continued to face disruptions. A Nepal Airlines flight from Kathmandu to Thamkharka was also diverted.
Light rain was recorded in the Kathmandu Valley on Sunday morning. The Department of Hydrology and Meteorology reported generally clear weather in Kathmandu and nearby areas on Sunday afternoon, but stated that light rainfall was occurring in several hilly regions due to the influence of westerly and local winds.
According to the department, the rainfall is partially caused by moisture-laden air moving in from the Bay of Bengal. The weather is expected to remain partly to generally cloudy across the country on Sunday afternoon, with the possibility of light to moderate rain accompanied by thunder, lightning, and gusty winds in hilly areas of Koshi and Lumbini provinces, as well as in some other regions. Light rain and snowfall are also likely in some mountainous and hill areas. -- RSS
