Overnight rain has disrupted traffic on the under-construction Suryabinayak–Jagati section of the Araniko Highway in Bhaktapur. According to Pradeep Khatri, chief of the District Traffic Police Range Bhaktapur, the road—linking Bhaktapur and Kavrepalanchok districts—is currently being operated one-way due to slippery conditions caused by rain.
With delays in the construction of a six-lane highway, the Bhaktapur section leading to Sanga has become hazardous. Traffic police reported that vehicles skidded and posed a risk of falling, prompting authorities to allow only incoming traffic from Kavre to Bhaktapur via Sanga.
Two-wheelers and light vehicles heading to Kavre from Bhaktapur have been rerouted through Jagati, Chyamasing, Tathali, and Nala to reach Banepa. Meanwhile, heavy goods vehicles have been stopped at Sallaghari and Jagati. Even light rainfall makes the muddy Sanga section of the highway impassable for large vehicles, which get stuck, while small vehicles risk slipping and falling down steep slopes.
Rain blocks Narayanghat–Butwal road
Continuous rain has also blocked the Narayanghat–Butwal section of the East-West Highway. The Daunne section, which is undergoing road expansion, became impassable after vehicles began slipping. Deputy Superintendent of Police Madhu Nepal, spokesperson for the District Police Office, urged travelers to use alternative routes.
This section has already been subject to nightly closures from 11:00 p.m. to 5:00 a.m. for upgrading, but the current disruption due to rain has caused long queues of vehicles.
Kanti Lokpath closed due to flooding
Similarly, the Kanti Lokpath connecting Hetauda to Kathmandu has been blocked since early morning on Sunday. According to the Makawanpur District Police Office, a flood in the Bagmati River washed away the diversion at the border of Bhimphedi Rural Municipality-8 (Makawanpur) and Bagmati Rural Municipality-2 (Lalitpur), halting traffic since 6:00 a.m.
A police team has been deployed to the site, and efforts are underway to reopen the road. Authorities have requested travelers to take alternative routes to reach Kathmandu from Hetauda.
Vehicles Stranded on Prithvi Highway
Vehicles were stranded in the Tharpu section along the Prithvi Highway at Myagde Rural Municipality-4, Tanahun, on Sunday morning following heavy rainfall. The delay in blacktopping a small portion under the Muglin–Pokhara road expansion project has caused recurring problems during rain, making the road muddy and difficult to navigate. -- RSS
