The Bagamati Province Government has spent only 38.91 percent of its total budget in the first ten months of the current fiscal year (FY 2024/25).
According to Indraraj Sanjyal, Information Officer at the Ministry of Internal Affairs and Planning, the provincial government spent 35.01 percent of its capital budget and 46.79 percent of its current expenditure between mid-July 2024 and mid-May 2025 (Shrawan to Baisakh).
Of the total Rs 64.54 billion allocated for the fiscal year, only Rs 25.11 billion has been spent so far—Rs 13.27 billion on capital expenditure and Rs 12.87 billion on current expenditure. Capital expenditure remains lower than current expenses.
Among provincial bodies, the Office of the Chief Attorney utilized the highest share of its allocated budget at 68.92 percent, while the Ministry of Culture and Tourism recorded the lowest at just 16.48 percent.
In terms of revenue collection, the province raised Rs 3.74 billion from internal sources, falling short of the estimated Rs 4.54 billion. Sanjyal attributed the shortfall to reduced transactions in real estate and vehicle sales due to tight economic liquidity. -- RSS
