The Civil Aviation Authority of Nepal (CAAN) has decided to increase the fuel surcharge starting Wednesday, December 4, following a rise in aviation fuel prices.
Fuel surcharges are typically imposed to offset fluctuations in fuel costs. Under the new decision, the fuel surcharge will rise in the range from Rs 15 to Rs 125 for the trunk sector and Rs 10 to Rs 85 for the STOL sector.
The surcharge is added to the total cost of the plane ticket.
CAAN, the country's aviation regulator, has instructed domestic airlines, in writing , to implement the new surcharge rates from Wednesday onward.
On November 30, Nepal Oil Corporation (NOC) raised the prices of petrol and aviation fuel , which took effect on Sunday, December 1.
The price of aviation fuel for domestic use was increased by Rs 2 per liter, while that for international use rose by $15 per kilolitre in Kathmandu. In Pokhara and Bhairahawa, it has been set at the break-even point. With this hike, the price of aviation fuel for domestic carriers has now reached Rs 128 per litre.
