The Civil Aviation Authority of Nepal (CAAN) has requested the international airlines operator to waive some of the charges applicable to the passengers who were originally scheduled to travel between Friday, September 27 and Wednesday, October 2.
The country’s aviation regulator has asked the operators for the waiver of date change charge, no-show charge and the difference in fare, where applicable, until Friday, October 11.
The request aims to provide relief to passengers considering recent incidents of floods and landslides, which also affected timely operation of flights, according to CAAN.
Adverse weather conditions affected both domestic and international flights to and from the Tribhuvan International Airports in the last two days.
The Kathmandu Valley recorded the highest-ever rainfall since the beginning of rain measurement in Nepal, according to the Weather Forecasting Division under the Department of Hydrology and Meteorology.
Meteorologist Rojan Lamichhane reported that the Tribhuvan International Airport's Rain Measurement Center on Saturday morning recorded 239.7 mm of rain in 24 hours. This rainfall broke the previous record of 177 mm, set in 2002, he said.
