Exports through the Birgunj customs point more than doubled in the first seven months of the current fiscal year, reaching Rs 40.35 billion, compared to Rs 17.07 billion in the same period last year.
The growth in exports through Nepal's busiest trade gateway was primarily driven by refined soybean and sunflower oil, according to Amit Tiwari, Information Officer at the Birgunj Customs Office.

Between mid-July 2024 and mid-February 2025, refined soybean oil exports totaled Rs 19.36 billion, while refined sunflower oil exports stood at Rs 4.63 billion through Birgunj customs. Fruit juice exports also saw a significant rise, reaching Rs 3.96 billion.
Additionally, iron and iron products worth Rs 3.1 billion, synthetic yarn worth Rs 1.60 billion, and various types of clothing worth Rs 1.47 billion were exported through the checkpoint. Raw materials for cattle feed accounted for Rs 1.22 billion in exports, further contributing to the overall growth.
