Four traffic police personnel have been arrested for allegedly assaulting a civilian in Kathmandu.
According to Superintendent of Police Deepak Giri, spokesperson for the Kathmandu Valley Traffic Police Office, the traffic police personnel were removed from duty after a video showing them beating a civilian circulated on social media and news outlets.
“We launched an investigation after the video surfaced. Four traffic officers involved in the incident have been relieved of their duties, and further investigation is ongoing,” SP Giri said.
In a statement issued on April 24, SP Giri said the Kathmandu Valley Traffic Police Office had taken serious note of the video showing a man being assaulted and verbally abused by traffic police.
The preliminary investigation revealed that the incident occurred under the overhead bridge at Sundhara, Kathmandu. Authorities have confirmed that a detailed inquiry is underway.
