The government has issued a three-point travel advisory for Nepali citizens planning to travel to Myanmar, Thailand, Cambodia, and Laos.
In a statement released on Monday, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs urged Nepali citizens to take precautions while traveling to these countries for foreign employment. The advisory follows reports of human trafficking rackets and criminals targeting Nepalis with false promises of attractive salaries.
The ministry highlighted cases where Nepali workers were forced into illegal activities, faced passport confiscation by employers, endured excessive working hours of 12–13 hours a day, experienced severe mistreatment, and were unpaid.
Nepalis are strongly advised against traveling on visit visas for foreign employment purposes. The ministry emphasized the importance of gathering sufficient information about foreign firms, companies, and employers through Nepali missions abroad before accepting employment offers.
Additionally, the advisory urged prospective workers to personally verify details about employers on their official websites to avoid falling victim to such schemes.
The ministry also reminded all individuals to refrain from engaging in illegal activities, warning that such actions are punishable by law. -- RSS
