The Himalayan Airlines has decided to stop selling tickets at the highest fare category in the normal economy class.
“The “Y” class fare is the highest fare category in normal economy class,” it said in a statement. “In order to facilitate the passengers, Himalaya Airlines has decided not to sell tickets in this category starting from November 21, 2024.”
In an attempt to bring down the international airfare, which has gone through the roof, following the closure of Tribhuvan International Airport (TIA) for 10 hours daily beginning November 8 for upgradation work, a meeting of the representatives from various government agencies and airlines operating international flights the following day had made several decision.
Among them were forbidding budget carriers from practising TBA for their sales and making the operators declare and publish their sector wise price range and average price.
The TBA is a practice in which the operators provide travel agencies the tickets in bulk and the right to sell them later, which makes them expensive, an official from CAAN had earlier told NBA requesting anonymity.

However, the prices are still excessively high, passengers complain.
Besides suspending the Group TBA booking, the airlines said, in the statement, that it has informed all travel agents to sell the tickets with minimum profit margin.
“We have been sending travel agents emails at least twice a week,” the statement reads. “If anyone is found involved in black marketing, they will be prosecuted according to the relevant laws of Nepal.”
