Insurance claims amounting to Rs 12.36 billion were filed between September 26 and December 11 for damage caused by rain-induced disasters in late September, according to the Nepal Insurance Authority .
Eighteen insurance companies received a total of 3,549 claims during this period. Of these, 16 companies have settled 1,514 claims, paying out Rs 1.19 billion, the authority's data reveal.

The disasters, caused by three days of incessant rainfall at the end of September, led to widespread devastation, including floods and landslides that claimed around 250 lives, with many others injured or missing. The events also caused significant property and infrastructure damage.
Bagmati Province was the worst affected, with 3,092 claims totaling Rs 10.74 billion, followed by Koshi Province with 261 claims and Madhesh Province with 100 claims.

Among the 18 companies, Siddhartha Premier received the highest number of claims at 508, amounting to Rs 2.62 billion. The company settled 219 claims worth Rs 255.29 million during the review period.
Nearly half of the claims, totaling Rs 9.04 billion, were for property damage, while 308 claims worth Rs 2.6 billion were related to engineering and contractors’ risks. The remaining claims covered damage to private and public vehicles, agricultural crops, livestock, and other categories.
