The photo exhibition “Charming Guangzhou Meets Nepal” concluded successfully in Kathmandu on Tuesday, April 15, drawing over 100 guests from the government, cultural, tourism, and business sectors of both Nepal and China, along with local media representatives and youth participants.
Hosted by the Information Office of the Guangzhou Municipal People’s Government, the event was jointly organized by the China Center for International Communication Development, Guangzhou Culture Group, Guangzhou Restaurant Group, and MINISO, with the CICG Center for Europe and Asia (China Pictorial Publications) serving as a co-organizer.
The exhibition featured over 30 striking photographs that captured Guangzhou’s evolution from a centuries-old maritime trade hub to a dynamic modern metropolis. Organizers described the event as a celebration of Guangzhou’s commitment to cultural diplomacy and people-to-people exchange, reinforcing its identity as a global city that harmonizes tradition with innovation.
In his remarks, Wang Xin, Deputy Chief of Mission at the Chinese Embassy in Kathmandu, emphasized diplomatic ties between the two countries and deepening ties between Guangzhou and Nepal in sectors such as trade, culture, tourism, and education. The event is expected to open new avenues for cooperation and shared prosperity.
Echoing this sentiment, Du Xinshan, Standing Committee member and Director-General of the Publicity Department of the CPC Guangzhou Municipal Committee, described Guangzhou as a key node on the historic Maritime Silk Road and a symbol of openness and inclusivity. He portrayed Kathmandu as a vibrant nexus of South Asian civilization and called on both cities to "navigate forward with trust as the vessel and innovation as the sail," building a new chapter in bilateral friendship and cultural exchange under the Belt and Road framework.
Representing Nepal, Binod Prakash Singh, Secretary at the Ministry of Culture, Tourism and Civil Aviation, praised the event for reflecting both Guangzhou’s vibrancy and Nepal’s welcoming spirit. He invited Chinese visitors to explore Nepal’s majestic landscapes and cultural heritage, while expressing hope that more Nepalis would experience the charm of Chinese cities.
The event also featured a promotional video showcasing Guangzhou’s urban allure, alongside lively cultural performances by the Guangzhou Culture Group. Highlights included the Cantonese opera “White Dragon Pass” and an acrobatic act titled “Strength and Beauty”. Attendees also enjoyed a curated showcase of cultural-creative displays and authentic Cantonese cuisine, offering an immersive taste of Guangzhou's unique character.
