The School of Science, Kathmandu University and Himalaya Mahalakshmi Tea Garden Pvt. Ltd. signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on Wednesday (August 28) to cooperate for producing best human resources in the agricultural sector.
Prof. Dr. Janardan Lamichhane, the Dean of School of Science, and Sudarshan Chapagain, Director of Himalaya Mahalakshmi Tea Garden, signed the MoU at the university in Dhulikhel, Kavre, according to the joint statement released on Thursday (August 29).
At a time when there is a scarcity of technical manpower in the tea sector as no universities in Nepal offer a separate course for tea cultivation, the effort is expected to initiate a new practice and be a new stage in the development of the agricultural sector.
According to the agreement, the students from Agriculture Department at the Kathmandu University will be sent to the Himalaya Mahalakshmi Tea Garden to carry out experiments and research. In return, the university provide employees of Himalaya Mahalakshmi Tea Garden technical training to increase their knowledge, skills and abilities related to tea and other commercial crops.
For this purpose, the university will establish an agricultural research center at the Himalaya Mahalakshmi Tea Garden.
