The District Administration Office, Bajura has begun assessing the damage caused by a 5.2 magnitude earthquake that struck the district early on Saturday, December 21.
Assistant Chief District Officer Rupak Mandal confirmed to the state-owned news agency RSS that no human casualties have been reported so far in Gotri, the epicenter, located in Jagnnath Rural Municipality. The region is situated in the northeastern part of the district, as per the Earthquake Monitoring Station in Surkhet.
“At Budhinanda Municipality-4, three children were rescued from a house that collapsed,” Mandal stated. “Additionally, several houses have developed cracks due to the quake.”
Authorities continue to gather information on the extent of the damage while monitoring the situation in the affected areas.
