The Diktel Rupakot Majhuwagadhi Municipality in Khotang district is set to host the First National Bamboo Conference in Diktel Bazaar from February 27 to March 1, 2025.

Over a dozen bamboo artisans will showcase their bamboo-based crafts at the conference, according to Mayor Teerthraj Bhattarai.

The event, being held under the slogan "Where there is bamboo, there is life; where there is life, there is bamboo," aims to promote the use of bamboo for local entrepreneurship development.

“The initiative will also help protect the environment and create jobs,” the state-owned news agency RSS quoted Deputy Mayor Bishan Rai as saying.

The largest municipality in the district, with 15 wards, has introduced policies to promote bamboo-made household materials.

To put these policies into action, the municipality has replaced imported furniture in its office with locally produced bamboo furniture.
