The Nepal Stock Exchange (NEPSE) Index declined for the third consecutive session on Wednesday, April 30, dropping 0.30% or 8.14 points to close at 2,623.83. The index had fallen 0.57% on Tuesday and 0.54% on Monday.
This followed modest gains of 0.13% on Sunday and 0.07% last Thursday, which had briefly ended a four-day losing streak.
Despite the decline, market activity strengthened, with daily turnover rising to over Rs 9.37 billion, up from Rs 8.91 billion the previous day. More than 24.5 million shares were traded across 79,777 transactions throughout the day.
Out of the 244 listed companies traded on the day, 107 posted gains, 136 declined, while one remained unchanged.
All major sub-indices ended in negative territory. The Sensitive Index shed 0.34%, the Sensitive Float Index fell by 0.23%, and the Float Index declined by 0.28%.
Samaj Laghubittya Bittiya Sanstha Ltd. (SAMAJ) and Nepal Micro Insurance Company Ltd. (NMIC) led the day’s gainers, hitting their respective upper circuit limits. Crest Micro Life Insurance Ltd. (CREST) followed closely, with shares advancing 9.99%.
Conversely, Bhugol Energy Development Company Limited (BEDC) led the day's losers, hitting the lower circuit limit.
Radhi Bidyut Company Ltd (RADHI) recorded the highest turnover, followed by Ngadi Group Power Ltd. (NGPL) and Sanima Mai Hydropower Ltd. (SHPC).
Among NEPSE’s 13 sectoral indices, only four closed in positive territory. The Hydropower Index posted the highest gain, rising 0.61%, while the Finance Index registered the steepest loss, declining 1.24%.
By the end of the session, NEPSE’s total market capitalization stood at approximately Rs 4.36 trillion, down from Rs 4.38 trillion the previous day.
