July 28: Nepal Telecom (NTC) and Department of Hydrology and Meteorology (DHM) has signed an agreement in a bid to provide early warning alerts of possible weather-related disasters through SMS. Buddhi Prasad Acharya, Managing Director of NTC and Dr Rishi Ram Sharma, Director General of DHM signed the agreement amid a program on July 28.
As per the agreement, NTC will provide data of customers resided in river areas and Himalaya range including Mahakali, West Rapti, Kankai, Babaie and Koshi to DHM in order to send early warning to the locals about the possible weather-related disaster. Based on the real time situation, the department will send mass SMS to the people living in the disaster prone areas from short code number 1155. NTC is providing the services free of cost.
