Opposition parties in Parliament on Tuesday, June 3, decided to intensify pressure on the government in the ongoing investigation into the visit visa scandal.
A joint meeting of CPN (Maoist Centre), Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP) CPN (Unified Socialist) concluded to push for the formation of a high-level commission to investigate the case, resignation of Home Minister to ensure an impartial investigation and Prime Minister’s commitment for the probe.
The meeting decided that the high level commission must focus on the tenures of home ministers following the enactment of the Labour Act in 2007.
“A high-level investigation commission must be formed, and all parties must commit to a lasting resolution of the visit visa issue,” read one of the resolutions of the meeting.
To ensure transparency and credibility, the opposition also demanded that Home Minister Ramesh Lekhak resign until the investigation is complete. “His resignation is essential to protect the integrity of the process and prevent any influence on the investigation,” read another resolution.
The opposition further called on Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli to personally address Parliament, assume responsibility, and make a clear commitment to supporting the investigation.
The meeting, chaired by CPN (Maoist Centre) chair Pushpa Kamal Dahal, concluded with a unanimous pledge to find a permanent solution to the visit visa scandal, which has drawn public outrage over alleged human trafficking facilitated by immigration officials.
Despite growing calls for accountability, Home Minister Lekhak has denied any wrongdoing and has refused to step down.
Chief Whips from the opposition parties are expected to formally present a three-point resolution to the Speaker of the House of Representatives.
