In a thrilling low-scoring encounter, Scotland defeated Nepal by one wicket in the ICC U-19 Women's T20 World Cup on Monday, January 20.
Chasing a modest target of 74 runs, Scotland reached the total in 18.4 overs, losing nine wickets at the UKM Oval cricket ground in Malaysia. Scotland's Pippa Sproul anchored the chase with a crucial 35 runs off 47 balls, including four boundaries, while Gabriella Fontenla chipped in with 12 runs.
Nepal’s bowlers fought valiantly, with Simna KC and Rachana Chaudhary taking two wickets each. Captain Puja Mahato and Krishma Gurung also contributed with a wicket apiece.
Batting first after winning the toss, Nepal was bowled out for just 73 runs in 18.5 overs.
Mahato top-scored with 27 runs off 43 balls, including three boundaries, while Savitri Dhami added 10 runs. None of the other Nepalese batters managed to reach double figures.
For Scotland, Maisie Maceira delivered an exceptional bowling performance, claiming five wickets. Amelie Baldie and Nayma Sheikh took two wickets each, while Kirsty McColl added one to her tally.
This defeat marks Nepal's second consecutive loss in the tournament, following the opening defeat to Bangladesh. Scotland, meanwhile, bounced back after losing its first match against Australia.
