The prices of Tata and Maruti Suzuki vehicles in Nepal are expected to rise following announcements from their Indian manufacturers regarding price increases.
Tata Motors has confirmed that, from 1 April 2025, the prices of its entire commercial vehicle range will increase by up to 2%. The company stated that this decision was driven by rising costs in the global automobile industry, with price adjustments varying according to model and variant.
Tata Motors is India’s largest commercial vehicle manufacturer. Sipradi Trading Pvt. Ltd. has been selling Tata commercial vehicles in Nepal since 1982. Tata trucks, buses, and pickups are among the most popular transport vehicles in the Nepali market.
“The price increase is a result of the crisis faced by the Indian automobile industry, and it will inevitably have an impact on Nepal,” said a representative from Sipradi.
Since 1992, Sipradi has also been selling Tata passenger vehicles in Nepal. The company introduced the Tata Sierra as its first passenger vehicle and began selling electric vehicles (EVs) three years ago. The Nexon EV is one of the best-selling electric vehicles in Nepal.
Similarly, Maruti Suzuki has announced plans to raise vehicle prices by up to 4% from April 2025. The company cited rising import costs, operational expenses, and inflationary pressures as the primary reasons for this decision.
According to The Economic Times, the move by Tata Motors and Maruti Suzuki comes in response to ongoing challenges within the automobile sector. The industry is struggling with global supply chain disruptions and the increasing cost of raw materials, necessitating the price hike.
Maruti Suzuki’s price increase will have a direct impact on Nepal. The brand, which has traditionally focused on petrol-powered vehicles, has recently introduced electric models, including the e-Vitara. CG Motocorp has been the authorised distributor of Maruti Suzuki vehicles in Nepal since 1981.
