Tribhuvan International Airport (TIA) has extended operations to 18-hour daily starting Tuesday, April 1, following months of restricted service due to infrastructure upgrades.
The airport was closed for 10 hours daily since November last year to facilitate upgradation work. Earlier the airport remained closed from 2 AM to 6 AM.
With the revised schedule, TIA will now remain open from 6 in the morning to 12 at night, General Manager Jagannath Niraula told the state-run news agency, RSS.
“The construction of a linkway connecting the taxiway to the runway has been completed,” Niraula stated. “However, work on the parallel taxiway is still ongoing.”
These upgrades are part of the Air Transport Capacity Enhancement Project under the Civil Aviation Authority of Nepal (CAAN). The project includes the construction of the South-West Parallel Taxiway, an expansion of the International Apron towards the northeast, and the development of a Hangar Apron towards the east.
With an estimated budget of Rs 15 billion, the project is expected to be completed within the next one and a half years.
