The movement of people and vehicular traffic is gradually picking up in Kathmandu Valley following the conclusion of the main event of the Bijaya Dashami festival. Activity had slowed since October 10, the seventh day of the 10-day Dashain festival, a major celebration for Nepalis.
Many people are still traveling to relatives' homes to receive Dashain tika and jamara from elders as of Tuesday, leading to increased traffic on the streets, according to Superintendent of Police Nawaraj Adhikari, spokesperson for the District Police Range Kathmandu. He noted that traffic levels have risen compared to the past few days.
Deputy Superintendent of Police Bharat Bahadur Bohara, chief of the Kathmandu Valley Traffic Police Office, confirmed that no major road accidents were reported during the Dashain period this year.
"Unlike previous years, there were no significant traffic incidents in Kathmandu Valley during Dashain, which is a relief for us. We are happy that people were able to celebrate without any concerns," Bohara said.
The number of vehicles and people on the roads has also increased as those who left Kathmandu to celebrate the festival have begun returning to the city. -- RSS
