An improvised explosive device (IED) exploded in Dandagaon of Phalelung Rural Municipality-5 in Panchthar district on Thursday, killing two children and injuring two others.
The deceased have been identified as 11-year-old Deepsan Sanwa and two-year-old Prinsa Sanwa, children of Dilip Sanwa. Initially, the two sustained injuries and were rushed to District Hospital Phidim. The hospital referred them elsewhere as their treatment was not possible at the district hospital. Unfortunately, they succumbed to their injuries due to the delay in treatment. According to the police, Prinsa died on the way to Ilam, while Deepsan passed away at B&C Hospital in Birtamod, Jhapa, on Friday morning.
Additionally, 11-year-old Pawan Rai, son of Gyan Bahadur Rai, was injured in the incident and is receiving treatment at the district hospital. Another victim, seven-year-old Pawan, son of Deepak Rai, has returned home after receiving treatment at a local health center.
The IED exploded in a house owned by Aitaraj Kerung, where the family of Gyan Bahadur Rai is currently living. The explosion occurred while the children were playing on Thursday afternoon.
District Police Office Chief Hemant Bhandari Chhetri reported that more suspicious items were found at the scene of the blast. A Nepalese Army team has reached the spot and started defusing them. Meanwhile, a police team has begun an investigation at the scene of the blast. -- RSS
