PM Urges Private Sector to Operate Electric Vehicles

October 24: Prime Minister KP Oli has urged the private sector to promote the use of electric vehicles. Oli made such comment while inaugurating five electric buses imported by Sajha Yatayat on Tuesday, October 23.

Stating that load-shedding has already ended and the country will become self-reliant on hydroelectricity in a few years, PM Oli stressed on the need to use renewable energy instead of petro products.

Oli said that the government is discussing about promoting the use of electric vehicles as the Nepal Electricity Authority has already installed electric charging stations at 20 places across the country.

He also claimed that around 20 percent of the vehicles in the valley will be powered by electricity by 2020.

Sailendra Guragain, chairman of Independent Power Producers' Association Nepal (IPPAN), said that the private sector is ready to run the electric vehicles in the country.
