Flying Above the Mountains

Today, the growth of the domestic air reach in Nepal has made it possible to experience the allure of the mountain ranges from an up-close bird's eye perspective. As we aim to cross boundaries to promote tourism in 2024, mountain flights have become a gateway to make the mountain experience accessible to everyone. Anyone can book a ticket and spend the next hour taking in the beauty of the mountain ranges, to the east or extend far off the west. Mountain flights are great alternatives for trekking for those who have limited travel time, budget restrictions, or health concerns that keep them from trekking.

It is a magical moment to watch the mountains up close and witness the hidden beauty between giant creases and snow-covered slopes. On a beautiful sunny morning, the sunlight gleams over the snow, creating a panoramic pattern of shiny snowed areas and their mysterious shadows. It is so close, that it almost feels like you are touching them. The mountain ranges are endless, from rocky hills fading into snowy peaks from as far as your vision guides you. Your eyes follow the heavenly beauty of the ice melting, carving a path for itself to wildly flow down the mountain creases and form the blue glaciers.

The very first flight of Buddha Air was a mountain flight, all the way to Everest and back. It was when Nepali air travel unravelled the doorway to bring the mountains to the reach of the people with maximum comfort and equally as remarkable of an experience. Also recognised as one of the best domestic airlines in Nepal, Buddha Air has been certified TripAdvisor’s Certificate of Excellence for three consecutive years since 2017. The aircraft comfortably cruises above 21,000ft above the ground, above the peaks. Every passenger gets a window seat, an opportunity to lurk out, point to more than 20 of the highest peaks of Nepal, and greet all the mountains surrounding it. Suddenly, you forget all the worries and bustles of everyday life; all that makes sense is the mountains. As you are seated, a small pamphlet labelling every mountain is handed. At one point of the flight, the passengers are escorted to the cockpit to enjoy a 360-degree view from up front and take tons of pictures.

This is a sign to seize the moment and take off to see the mountains. It is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to finally experience the breathtaking beauty of the mountains that you've only seen from afar or in stunning photos and documentaries.
