Campaigners have called on the government to take swift action to return the savings of victims of cooperatives. Speaking at a news conference organized by the National Campaign for the Protection of Cooperative Depositors on Monday, speakers stressed the urgency of returning the savings, especially as many depositors are struggling to cover medical expenses.
The federation stated that it was forced to initiate peaceful street demonstrations after the government failed to honor past agreements even after 95 days of the third-phase agitation. The federation’s President Kushalab KC reported that four victims of financial cooperatives have lost their lives during the 16-month-long protest.
A peaceful protest is planned for September 1, marking 101 days since the beginning of the third phase of the agitation. -- RSS
