The 27th meeting of the Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Executive Committee decided to provide financial relief to local levels affected by floods and landslides caused by heavy rainfall from September 26 to 29. Chaired by Home Minister Ramesh Lekhak, the meeting, held at the office of the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Authority (NDRRMA) in Singha Durbar, approved the release of funds to 71 affected local levels.
According to Basanta Adhikari, Joint Secretary of NDRRMA, the local levels will be categorized into three groups based on the severity of damage, and each will receive between Rs 5 million and Rs 10 million in relief.
The committee also decided to recommend to the National Council for Disaster Risk Reduction and Management that funds be distributed to affected municipalities as immediate relief through the District Disaster Management Committees.
In addition, a detailed damage assessment will be conducted for long-term reconstruction and rehabilitation efforts. Based on the findings, relevant agencies will take necessary steps for rebuilding.
The committee also directed NDRRMA to prepare a comprehensive action plan for the reconstruction process. Meanwhile, the Ministry of Health and Population will implement a free health insurance scheme for families who lost loved ones in disasters during the monsoon.
Health Minister Pradeep Paudel and Minister for Federal Affairs and General Administration Rajkumar Gupta also attended the meeting. -- RSS
