The country has officially entered the post-monsoon season, with the monsoon withdrawing completely on Saturday. According to the Department of Hydrology and Meteorology, the monsoon began retreating from parts of the country on October 6, with its full exit completed by October 12.
This year, the monsoon arrived four days later than expected and took an additional six days to fully withdraw. As a result, cooler temperatures have set in, and meteorologists are urging people to take precautions against the cold.
The weather has improved significantly after the rainfall on September 27 and 28. With clearer skies, mornings and evenings are now noticeably colder. Kathmandu, the federal capital, has been experiencing a steady drop in temperature over the past week.
Meteorologist Sanjiv Adhikari reported that Kathmandu's minimum temperature was recorded at 20°C on October 1, but it has since dropped to 16°C.
"The cold is becoming more noticeable in Kathmandu, and temperatures have been declining for two weeks," Adhikari added.
On Sunday, the temperature in the Kathmandu Valley dropped to 14.7°C, and it was recorded at 16°C on Monday. Other parts of the country are also seeing a similar decline in temperature. Adhikari emphasized the need for caution as temperatures continue to fall.
The Weather Forecasting Division noted a general impact of westerly winds in the Lumbini, Sudur Paschim, Karnali, and Gandaki provinces. There is a partial impact from a combination of westerly and local winds in the Koshi, Madhesh, and Bagmati provinces. Despite some weather changes in the hill areas of Koshi, Bagmati, and Gandaki provinces, the weather is expected to be clear. -- RSS
