Egg prices have risen once more, driven by a surge in demand amid a significant drop in production caused by the intensifying summer heat.
The Nepal Layers Poultry Farmers Association announced the latest price hike, effective Saturday, May 31.
According to the revised rates, the farm gate price for extra-large eggs has been set at Rs 480 per crate (30 eggs). Large and medium-sized eggs now cost Rs 465 and Rs 435 per crate, respectively.
This marks a notable increase from the rates set on April 27 , when extra-large, large, and medium eggs were priced at Rs 450, Rs 430, and Rs 380 per crate, respectively.
Association Chair Binod Pokharel said the price revision aims to provide some relief to farmers, who are struggling to cover their production cost.
“Extreme heat has reduced egg output by up to 25 percent,” said Pokharel. “Higher temperatures lead to reduced feed intake and increased vulnerability to disease in chickens.”
