Flights at Tribhuvan International Airport (TIA) were disrupted today, March 31, due to adverse weather conditions, leading to the diversion of several international flights.
According to TIA officials, more than half a dozen international flights were rerouted to Bhairahawa and India due to low visibility. TIA spokesperson Rinji Sherpa confirmed that flights operated by Jazeera Airways, Air India, and Fly Dubai were among those affected.
Jazeera Airways and Air India flights were diverted to Varanasi, India, while Fly Dubai was redirected to Gautam Buddha International Airport in Bhairahawa. Some flights were also placed on hold for a brief period.
Earlier on Monday morning, visibility at TIA was recorded at 1,600 meters, which was below the required standard for safe landings. However, conditions improved later in the day, with visibility reaching 3,000 meters. The disruption was primarily caused by dust and haze.
Nepal is currently experiencing the partial influence of a westerly wind system.
