Amid an increase in seismic activity in the region, a magnitude 5.9 earthquake struck Tibet on Saturday afternoon sending tremors across various parts of Nepal, including the Kathmandu Valley. The earthquake occurred at 2:35 pm local time (Nepali).
According to Nepal’s National Earthquake Monitoring and Research Center ( NEMRC ), the epicenter was located in Dinggye County, north of Nepal’s Sankhuwasabha district. The full extent of the damage is yet to be determined.

Earlier this year, a deadly earthquake struck the same region on January 7, claiming over 100 lives . The NEMRC reported the quake as magnitude 7, while the China Earthquake Networks Center (CENC) recorded it as magnitude 6.8.

Just last week, on February 28, a 6.1-magnitude earthquake struck Sindhupalchowk district at 2:51 am local time. It did not result in any casualties.

In addition to the tremors from Tibet, Nepal experienced seismic activity in its western region earlier Saturday. A 4.0-magnitude earthquake was recorded in Myagdi district at 3:14 am, followed by a 4.1-magnitude quake in Baglung at 6:20 am.
