Dev Kumar Nepali, Mayor of Dhorpatan Municipality and Founding Chairman of Image Savings and Credit Cooperative Society Ltd., has reached a partial reconciliation with victims of the cooperative fraud case, according to the state-owned news agency RSS.
Despite the reconciliation, the fraud case against Mayor Nepali, who remains in judicial custody, will continue.
Out of 1,573 victims, 547 have agreed to settle their disputes with the cooperative, waiving claims to penalty amounts as part of the agreement. The victims will receive their deposits from Mayor Nepali’s family assets.
The Baglung District Court had earlier ordered the reconciliation. Mayor Nepali was sent to custody on October 1, 2024, following fraud charges filed by 1,573 depositors.
As part of the reconciliation, the 547 victims who filed fraud complaints against Mayor Nepali will withdraw their cases, RSS reported.
The fraud case implicates a total of 13 individuals, including Nepali.
RSS
