The Nepal Stock Exchange (NEPSE) index fell by 0.39 percent or 10.41 points on Sunday, January 26, closing at 2,643.93. This decline followed a 0.41 percent drop last Thursday, which came after four consecutive days of gains.
Daily turnover, however, surged past Rs 9.12 billion, compared to Rs 7.85 billion on previous trading day. More than 15.5 million shares changed hands across 94,813 transactions on the first trading day of the week.
All major indices ended the day in the red. The Sensitive Index dropped 0.71 percent, the Float Index decreased by 0.41 percent, and the Sensitive Float Index fell 0.59 percent.
Upakar Laghubitta Bittiya Sanstha Limited (ULBSL) and Mathillo Mailun Khola Jalvidhyut Limited (MMKJL) were the top gainers of the day, hitting the upper circuit limit.
Other notable gainers included Corporate Development Bank Limited (CORBL), Aarambha Chautari Laghubitta Bittiya Sanstha Limited (ACLBSL), and the 10% Nabil Debenture 2082 (NBLD82), which saw share price increases of 9.88 percent, 9.68 percent, and 9.67 percent, respectively.
On the losing side, four companies—Bottlers Nepal (Balaju) Limited (BNL), 11% NIC Asia Debenture 082/83 (NICAD8283), Dolti Power Company Limited (DOLTI), and Janaki Finance Company Limited (JFL)—hit the lower circuit limit.
In terms of turnover, Saptakoshi Development Bank Ltd (SAPDBL) led the pack, followed by Nepal Reinsurance Company Limited (NRIC) and NRN Infrastructure and Development Limited (NRN).
Of the 13 NEPSE sub-indices, only five saw gains. The Microfinance Index recorded the highest increase of 0.75 percent, while the Finance Index suffered the largest decline of 4.76 percent.
