The Nepal Stock Exchange (NEPSE) index surged 0.26 percent (or 6.78 points) on Monday, January 20, to close at 2,607.99, following the 0.48 percent rise the previous day.
Last week, the NEPSE declined by 46.45 points, reversing the 48.99-point-gain in the previous week.
Daily turnover, too, increased on the second trading day of the week, surpassing Rs 6.57 billion, compared to over Rs 6.25 billion on Sunday. Over 13.5 million shares changed hands through 74,403 transactions on the day.
All major indices—the Sensitive Index, Float Index, and Sensitive Float Index—ended the day in the green, with gains of 0.02 percent, 0.16 percent, and 0.03 percent, respectively.
Manushi Laghubitta Bittiya Sanstha Limited (MLBS) emerged as the top gainer of the day, with an increase of 9.05 percent in its share price.
In contrast, Wean Nepal Laghubitta Bittiya Sanstha Limited (WNLB) and Super Madi Hydropower Limited (SMHL) hit the lower circuit limit, becoming the biggest losers.
River Falls Power Limited (RFPL) led in turnover, followed by Himalayan Power Partner Ltd. (HPPL) and NRN Infrastructure and Development Limited (NRN).
Of the 13 NEPSE sub-indices, five experienced declines. The Others Index recorded the highest gain of 2.13 percent, whereas the Finance Index faced the steepest loss of 2.54 percent.
