Amid an increase in seismic activity in the region, a magnitude 5.9 earthquake struck Tibet on Saturday afternoon sending tremors across various parts of Nepal, including the Kathmandu Valley. The earthquake occurred at 2:35 pm local time (Nepali).
According to Nepal’s National Earthquake Monitoring and Research Center (NEMRC), the epicenter was located in Dinggye County, north of Nepal’s Sankhuwasabha district. The full extent of the damage is yet to be determined.

Earlier this year, a deadly earthquake struck the same region on January 7, claiming over 100 lives. The NEMRC reported the quake as magnitude 7, while the China Earthquake Networks Center (CENC) recorded it as magnitude 6.8.

Just last week, on February 28, a 6.1-magnitude earthquake struck Sindhupalchowk district at 2:51 am local time. It did not result in any casualties.

In addition to the tremors from Tibet, Nepal experienced seismic activity in its western region earlier Saturday. A 4.0-magnitude earthquake was recorded in Myagdi district at 3:14 am, followed by a 4.1-magnitude quake in Baglung at 6:20 am.
