Fire at ICP Obstructs Import-Export for 3 Hours

March 25: The Nepal-India Integrated Check Post (ICP) caught fire on Sunday afternoon toward the Indian side. Communications Officer at Birgunj-based ICP, Manish Mahato, confirmed that the Indian side of the ICP in Raxaul caught fire on March 24. He informed New Business Age that the fire that started from the bushes near the ICP parking lot spread toward the newly-built customs infrastructure.

The fire was doused jointly by the fire engines of Nepal and India. Import and export of goods from the customs point was halted for three hours as a result of the fire.

Superintendent of Police Rewati Dhakal of Parsa Police said that the fire did not cause any significant damage.

More than 500 vehicles including tankers, trucks, gas bullets had to be shifted elsewhere due to the fire.

A similar incident had occurred two months ago as well.

Police suspect that the fire might have been caused by a cigarette thrown in the bushes.
