Storm Damages Dozen of Industries, Supply of Electricity Disrupted

April 1: Sunday evening’s storm has caused damages to more than a dozen industries in Bara and Parsa. The storm has destroyed the infrastructures of many industries.

Operators of some industries informed New Business Age that they were tormented by rain and hailstones after the storm blew away the roof and felled the walls.

Four industries of Chachan Group have been damaged by the storm. Strong wind blew away the structures of the industries.

Satish Chachan, proprietor of Chachan Group, said that the storm damaged their infrastructure, raw materials and equipment.

Narayani Refinery, Narayani Pulses, Narayani Modern Lentil Industry and Narayani Cement sustained damages.

Entrepreneurs have estimate loss of millions due to the storm.

Meanwhile, supply of electricity has been disrupted in both the districts. Bara and Parsa were left in the dark as the storm damaged electricity transmission lines.

The Nepal Electricity Authority’s Birgunj office confirmed that the supply of electricity has been disrupted due to the incident.

Munindra Thakur of the office informed New Business Age that Sunday evening’s storm caused heavy damages to the 66 KV transmission line of Nitanpur. It has been learnt that Raxaul-Parwanipur’s 150 kv transmission line has also been damaged.

The storm also felled poles in many places.

NEA said it has so far been unable to supply electricity to the industries as well as households of the two districts.

Arun Singh, chief of the maintenance department of NEA Birgunj, said that the repair of the 66 KV transmission line of Nitanpur is currently underway. NEA said it is effortful to resume supply of electricity by Monday evening.
