JP Associates gets Hydropower Project Contract

November 27: Jaya Prakash Associates  (JP) has received the responsibility to carry out the construction of Rahughat Hydropower Project.  The contract agreement was signed between Nepal Electricity Authority and JP Associates on Thursday, November 23. The duration of the contract periodis 45 months after the initiation of the project.

As per the agreement, the company has to complete the project with a budget of Rs 6 billion by 2021. Before this, an Indian construction company, IVRCL, carried out the construction of the 32 MW project but it could not complete it. Therefore, the project was handed over to the new company after the tenure of the previous project undertaken by IVRCL expired after seven years. According to the previous agreement, the construction project was to be completed within 4 years.

The detailed project report was prepared in 1998 and the project was to be completed by 2008. The required area of 285 ropanis of land was already acquired but the project failed to gain momentum. The project site lies at Piple, Jhin and Dagna of Myagdi district. The electricity produced from the project will be transmitted to the Modikhola station for national distribution.
