EU, CNI Meet, Talks about Opening EU Bank in Nepal

December 13: In a meeting with Confederation of Nepalese Industries (CNI), Ambassador at European Union Delegation to Nepal, Veronica Cody has expressed commitment to continuously help in promoting Nepal’s business and economic development.

During the meeting at CNI’s secretariat office, Cody mentioned the probability of establishing a European Union Bank in Nepal. She explained that a separate team will visit Nepal in the near future for a feasibility assessment of the EU Bank in Nepal. “The probability of Nepal’s development has been intensified after the central, provincial and local election,” Cody mentioned, adding, “EU will possibly expand its help in the field of public health, education and promotion of private businesses.”

Hari Bhakta Sharma, president of CNI, expressed that cooperation from development partner organization like EU will prove beneficial in the changed political context of Nepal where governments and political parties have placed high value on political stability and economic agendas.

Sharma noted that CNI successfully completed various small export promotion projects and two conferences on infrastructure in the past three years in collaboration with the EU. He further informed that the CNI envisage operating ‘Industrial Excellence Center’ in the future with a view to boost industrial production and improve quality. During the meeting, Sharma also proposed for EU’s cooperation in operating the excellence center.  

The meeting was attended by CNI officials and members from governing council.
