Snowfall in Taplejung Again

January 10: Taplejung district has witnessed snowfall again this winter. The high hills of the district received snowfall following rainfall since Wednesday afternoon. This is the second time in two weeks that the district saw snowfall.

Places like Olangchungola, Yangma, Ghunsa, Lelep, Gyabla, Fale among other areas in the mountainous region were covered with thick layer of snow. The locals of the famed temple, Pathivara, also informed that the area witnessed snowfall.

The temperature has plummeted sharply in the district headquarters Fungling as well as other places of the district due to the rain and snowfall.

People living above 2500 meters have been affected more due to the biting cold. People living in the highlands have been affected the most as they did not shift to the lowlands to avoid the severe cold this season.

Normally, people living in the high altitude take the winter season as a time to visit warmer places outside the district. But these days, people have started staying back home after making necessary arrangements to keep themselves warm.

A few years ago, Taplejung used to witness snowfall since October-November but this time the district had to wait till December to witness the first snowfall.
