Ramesh Adhikari defeated Deepak Thapa Magar to win the Surya Nepal NPGA Match Play, the seventh event under the Surya Nepal Golf Tour 2013-14 played at Royal Nepal Golf Club on Thursday. Adhikari registered a 2 and 1 victory in the all-RNGC final that was played over 36 holes. This is second career title for Adhikari. He had won the maiden career title at the Ghana Shyam Open in 2011 at the Army Club. With the title, Adhikari received Rs 50,000 while Deepak Thapa Magar earned Rs 30,000.
Adhikari was 4-up after the first nine holes, while Deepak cut down the lead to two after the completion of 18 holes. Adhikari extended that to 3-up after 27 holes and completed the victory on the 35th hole. Earlier, Shiva Ram Shrestha of RNGC defeated third-seeded Sanjay Lama of Tribhuvan Army Officers Golf Club 3 and 2 in the third place match. Shiva Ram pocketed 22,000, while Sanjay got Rs 18,000.
Four losing quarter finalists Deepak Acharya, Dhana Thapa, Ramesh Nagarkoti and Toran Bikram Shahi earned Rs 10,000 each, while eight pros who lost in the first round, Sachin Bhattarai, Surya Prasad Sharma, Pashupati Sharma, Ram Thapa, Umesh Nagarkoti, CB Bhandari, Mani Rai and Rabi Khadka got Rs 5,000 each.
President of Nepal Professional Golfers Association Rabindra Man Shrestha, Brand Manager of Surya Nepal Pvt Ltd Keshav Pradhan and Advisor of Nepal PGA Ghana Shyam Thapa handed over the prizes to the winners.
