The Nepali diaspora in Lhasa has donated Rs 3.7 million to support the victims of the devastating earthquake in Tingri County, Tibet.
The fundraising initiative was facilitated by the Office of the Nepali Consulate General in Lhasa and organized by a local welfare organization, according to the state-owned news agency RSS. Kunjo Dharke Nepali, chairman of the welfare organization, handed over the collected fund to Liao Yidong, head of the Lhasa Red Cross, on Friday, January 10.
The 6.8-magnitude earthquake , which struck Tingri County in the city of Shigatse on Tuesday, January 7, has claimed at least 126 lives and injured 337 others , according to China’s state-backed Global Times newspaper. The region experienced over 1,600 aftershocks by Friday afternoon according to local authorities.
