The Department of Tourism, under the Ministry of Culture, Tourism, and Civil Aviation, has banned the use of plastic bottles in luxury hotels and resorts.
In a recent press statement, the department announced this ban in all hotels rated four-stars or above and resorts (deluxe and luxury).
According to Dr Narayan Regmi, the director general of the department, they decided to take action after receiving information that hotels and resorts classified as star hotels by the department and operating with valid license were using plastic bottles to serve drinks against the standard set by the government.
As per Dr Regmi, since the usage of plastic bottles poses a threat to human health and the environment, such hotels have been directed to arrange drinking water in hotel rooms and restaurants using glass bottles and other metal vessels.
