The Nepal Stock Exchange (NEPSE) index gained 5.32 points on Sunday, January 5, closing at 2,591.56, following a 4.63-point increase on the previous trading day. This marks the third consecutive day of gains, although the index has risen by only 15.05 points during this period.
Despite recent upticks, the NEPSE index has hovered near the 2,600-point mark for the last several days. Last week, the index saw an overall decline of 36.88 points, reversing the previous week's gain of 33.88 points.
On the first trading day of the week, daily turnover exceeded Rs 4.86 billion, compared to over Rs 4.60 billion last Thursday. Over 9 million shares were traded across 61,167 transactions on the day.
The Sensitive Index and Sensitive Float Index both experienced slight declines of 0.15 percent and 0.16 percent, respectively. Meanwhile, the Float Index recorded a modest increase of 0.10 percent.
Three companies- Upakar Laghubitta Bittiya Sanstha Limited (ULBSL),
Dordi Khola Jal Bidyut Company Limited (DORDI) and Green Ventures Limited (GVL) hit the upper circuit limit, to become the biggest gainers of the day.
In contrast, Narayani Development Bank Limited (NABBC) was the biggest loser, with its share price dropping by 8.88 percent.
Janaki Finance Company Limited (JFL) led in turnover, followed by River Falls Power Limited (RFPL) and RASUWAGADHI HYDROPOWER COMPANY LIMITED (RHPL).
Out of 13 NEPSE sub-indices, five closed in the red. The Hydropower Index recorded the highest gain of 1.67 percent, while the Finance Index experienced the sharpest decline of 1.04 percent.
