The Chinese government has decided to provide 500 million yuan (approximately Rs 9 billion) to Nepal in grant.
The announcement was made by President Xi Jinping during a meeting with Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli, who is currently on a four-day official visit to China, reported RSS, the state-owned news agency.
On the second day of his visit, Prime Minister Oli met with President Xi Jinping , held talks with Premier Li Qiang , and engaged with Zhao Leji , Chairman of the Standing Committee of the National People’s Congress.
The leaders held in-depth discussions on strengthening China-Nepal relations amid evolving global dynamics, as well as international and regional issues of mutual interest. A joint statement issued by both nations later in the day highlighted the agreements reached during the talks.
Prime Minister Oli and Premier Li led their respective delegations in comprehensive bilateral discussions. Following these talks, several agreements were signed between the two countries. These include: Agreement on Economic and Technical Cooperation, Letter of Exchange on Tokha-Chhahare Tunnel, MoU on Trade Promotion Cooperation, Protocol on Requirements for Thermally Processed Buffalo Meat Products to be Exported from Nepal to China, MoU on the Development Plan (2024-2029), Letter of Exchange on Cash Assistance, Handover Certificate for the Completion of the Reconstruction of Nine-Storey Basantapur Tower, MoU on Volunteer Chinese Language Teachers, and MoU between Public Service Broadcasting Nepal Television and China Media Group.
Prime Minister Oli also extended a formal invitation to President Xi to visit Nepal in 2025, marking the 70th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the two nations, according to RSS.
